The LSAT Boss Podcast is Back with Season 5!

Welcome back, LSAT Boss family! We're kicking off Season 5 with an extra special episode featuring one of my all-time favorite co-hosts, Trudel Pare. If you’ve been with us since Season 1, you’ll remember Trudel when she was just diving into law school and tutoring her first LSAT students. Well—plot twist—she's now six weeks away from graduation. Yep. Time. Flies.

Here are some highlights from our conversation and why this episode might be just what you need if you're navigating the LSAT journey, applying to law school, or writing your personal statement.

💫 From 1L to Almost JD: Trudel’s Full-Circle Moment

"Almost done with law school. I have like six weeks left, I think." – Trudel

The episode opens with a shocker—Trudel is graduating law school in just a few short weeks. I was totally blindsided (in the best way). It’s surreal thinking about her journey from LSAT student to tutor, and now, soon-to-be attorney. She's the walking definition of hustle, and if you’re wondering whether the investment of law school is worth it, Trudel’s take is a must-listen.

"It's a big investment. Law school is a lot of work... but I also had some really excellent experiences, made really good friends. I'm grateful for it."

Her story is powerful for anyone trying to imagine what life looks like on the other side of the LSAT.

✍️ Writing a Personal Statement That Actually Stands Out

The heart of the episode dives into how to write a truly compelling personal statement. Here’s the truth: this is not the time to play it safe or generic. We talked at length about how most students approach the personal statement the wrong way—by filtering, self-editing too early, or playing to what they think admissions committees want to hear.

"Start with the word: personal... I’d rather have an 8-page anecdote filled with deep insight than some generic two-pager that looks like everything else." – Shana

Our biggest advice? Start with an anecdote. Dig into the best, worst, and ugliest moments of your life. Record yourself talking about them. Then write from there.

"Sometimes people are still grieving from traumas when they're writing essays—but by the time they finish, they’re healing a little bit, too." – Shana

Trudel echoed this with a really important insight:

"Some students think it has to be 'buttoned up'—like super professional—but they don’t talk about how experiences made them feel. The best statements share how it impacted you. That’s what makes it authentic."

Authenticity is what gets remembered. Especially by admissions officers who are reading thousands of these essays.

🧠 Rewriting Your Narrative (For Real)

We also talked about how writing a personal statement is one of the rare times in life where you get to redefine who you are in a professional capacity. Trudel and I have worked with so many students who use this as a chance to reclaim their voice, shift their narrative, or choose their identity on their terms.

"This might be the first time in your life where you get to redefine who you want to be in a professional capacity... Law school is your choice. And you get to build out your own brand." – Shana

Whether you’re reclaiming your full name, speaking about lived experiences, or finally saying what drives you—not your parents or teachers or old mentors, but you—this essay is your space to do that.

🧭 What to Expect This Season

Each week, Trudel and I will tackle real questions from real students—pulled from online forums, our inboxes, DMs, and conversations. We'll give you bite-sized, high-quality insights in just 15 minutes per episode. Because we know how busy you are and how precious your study time is.

"We’re gonna do it consistently like electricity."

That’s the energy we’re bringing.

If you haven’t already, tune in to LSAT Boss, Season 5, Episode 1 wherever you get your podcasts. And if you’re someone who’s been wondering how to write a personal statement that actually feels like you—or just need a reminder that you’re not alone in this process—this episode’s for you.

Until next week, keep grinding, stay personal, and don’t forget: the juice is worth the squeeze. 🍋
